Education and/or Examination Information

To apply for a General Insurance Agent licence, you must complete one of the three four-page application forms and submit this form along with proof of completion of one of the below courses. If you are applying to write an examination, you are required to supply the Examination Registration Form along with the examination fee. (NOTE: the examination fee is $110.00 payable by cash, money order or company cheque only).  Incomplete Examination Registration Forms and/or Application Forms will be returned without review.

Education and/or Examination to obtain a Level 1 Auto Only Broker Licence
  • successfully completes the following:
  • the Auto Broker Technical Course through IBAM; and
  • the Manitoba Public Insurance proficiency examination.

Education and/or Examination to obtain a Level 1 General Agent Licence
  • successfully completes one of the following:
    • CAIB 1 through IBAM; or
    • Fundamentals of Insurance through IBAM;
    • Introduction to General Insurance through ILS; or
    • Council's Challenge Level 1 Examination.
      • consists of 100 multiple choice questions
      • 75% is the required pass mark
      • time allotment is 2 hours.

Education and/or Examination to obtain a Level 2 General Agent Licence
  • completes CAIB 1, Fundamentals of Insurance or currently holds a licence as a Level 1 General agent and successfully completes one of the following:
    • CAIB 2 and CAIB 3 through IBAM; or
    • Council's Challenge Level 2 Examination
      • consists of 100 multiple choice questions
      • 75% is the required pass mark
      • time allotment is 2 hours.

or

  • has any one of the following designations: C.I.P., A.I.I.C., F.C.I.P., F.I.I.C., C.A.I.B., C.I.B., and C.R.M. or another designation that the council considers equivalent.

Education and/or Examination to obtain a Level 3 General Agent Licence
  • has carried on business under the Level 2 licence for a period of at least two years and who
    • successfully completes one of the following:
      • CAIB 4 through IBAM; or
      • Council's Challenge Level 3 Examination
        • consists of 150 multiple choice questions
        • 75% is the required pass mark
        • time allotment is 3 hours.

or

  • Another designation that the council considers equivalent.
