Completion of the full Life Licence Qualification Program (LLQP) and examination is the only recognized way for entry-level agents to obtain a licence. In addition, the LLQP includes updated standards to reflect the skills necessary to do accident and sickness insurance business in today's marketplace. The LLQP pre-training course components dealing with accident and sickness insurance and the LLQP examination to test that material has become mandatory for new applicants for a separate accident and sickness or an accident & sickness only licence.
An applicant must first complete the pre-training course which is only available from one of the 14 Approved LLQP Course Providers. Once the applicant completes the pre-training course and examination with the Approved LLQP Course Provider, they will receive an LLQP certificate of completion.
An applicant must then complete the 4-page registration form prior to registering for the examination with our office. Once our office has the fully completed form, you may register for your provincial LLQP examination. Below are steps of what to bring to the examination along with how many questions are on the examination, the length of each examination, the examination location and additional notes.
What to Bring to the Examination
- Examination fee of $110.00 payable by cash, money order or agency/company cheque only. (No Personal Cheques, Debit or Credit Cards will be accepted for the examination fee)
- Original Picture Identification plus a photocopy of your Picture Identification (must include Name, Picture, Date of Birth and Signature. Acceptable identification must be either "valid Driver's Licence" or "passport". Any individual who does not have picture identification can not write the examination)
- Examination Form which will be mailed out to you once you register with our office for your examination (please fully complete this form prior to submitting it to our office)
- Original LLQP certificate plus a photocopy of this certificate from your LLQP Course Provider (Council will return the original to you and keep the photocopy on file)
Number of Questions and Length of Examination
- Full Life Insurance Examination consists of 140 questions. Allotted time is 4 Hours.
- The Accident & Sickness Insurance Agent Examination consists of 45 questions. Allotted time is 2 hours.

Additional Notes
- 24 hour cancellation notice is required. - Phone: 988-6800 (voicemail box available). Applicants who fail to provide cancellation notice within the required time will lose their booking privileges for examinations.
- Registration time for exam sittings is 8:30 a.m. to 8:55 a.m. No admittance into the examination room is allowed once the exam has started.
- No food or beverages allowed in the examination room.
- No papers, study material, briefcases, cell phones, pagers or personal belongings allowed in the examination room. Please leave these items at home or at the office.
- Once the examination starts, no one can leave the room. This includes washroom breaks. Breaks must be taken before the examination begins.
- An applicant is not entitled to more than three (3) examinations in any period of six (6) months (Section 2(7) of Regulation 389/87).
