- How many credit hours would I receive for the completion of a CAIB course?
All CAIB courses are worth 12 Continuing Education Credit Hours. However, for 1st time licensees, CAIB 1 is a pre-licensing course therefore 8 credit hours are used to obtain the ICM licence which leaves 4 credit hours that can be used towards the 8 required to renew.
How many credit hours would I receive for the completion of the Fundamentals of Insurance with IBAM?
The Fundamentals of Insurance (FOI) is worth 8 Continuing Education Credit Hours. However, for 1st time licensees, FOI is a pre-licensing course therefore these credit hours are used to obtain the ICM licence and an additional 8 credit hours will be required to renew your licence in May.
Do I receive credit hours for the completion of a General Level 1, 2 or 3 examination through the Council office?
Completion of the General Level 1, 2 or 3 examination through our Council office does not grant you Continuing Education Credit Hours.
With the successful completion of the Auto Broker Technical Course and/or the Manitoba Public Insurance proficiency examination, do I receive credit hours?
The Auto Broker Technical Course is worth six (6) Continuing Education Credit Hours. However, for first time
licensees, the Auto Broker Technical Course is a pre-licensing course, therefore, four (4) credit hours are used to obtain the ICM
licence which leaves two (2) credit hours that can be used towards the four (4) required to renew.
If I took a course in the past and would like to take the same course again will Council
accept these credit hours?
No. You cannot claim credits for the same course, unless you can provide Council with proof
that the course content has changed significantly since it was last taken.

Parental Leave - All classes of Insurance
- If I go on parental leave, will there be any reduction in credit hours?
A reduction of 50% in credit hours will be given for parental leave. The agent must advise our office in writing within the first
thirty (30) days of going on parental leave and receive written consent from our office.
Do I need to inactivate my licence to receive a reduction for my parental leave?
No. A reduction of 50% in credit hours will be given for parental leave irregardless if the licence is active or inactive. As a reminder,
if the licence of any holder is inactive for a period exceeding twelve (12) months, the licence can not be re-instated without the applicant first satisfying the licensing
requirements for the issue of that licence.
Submitting Credit Hours at Renewal - All classes of Insurance
- When reporting my credit hours at renewal, should I list them all or just the required amount (15-Life, 15-A&S only, 8-General, 4-Auto-Only, 8-Adjusters) to satisfy the requirement?
Please list all courses taken between June 1 and May 31 (July 1 and June 30 for Adjusters) even if you have obtained more Credit Hours than what the requirement is.
If I am taking a course towards the end of the licensing year (May for agents and June for adjusters), do I have to wait until I’ve completed the course in order to declare it on the Continuing Education Renewal Application Supplement form and submit my renewal?
No, you can declare the course on your Continuing Education Renewal Application Supplement form and submit your renewal beforehand. However, should you not attend the course for any reason, you must notify us IMMEDIATELY and make other arrangements to satisfy the Credit Hour requirement.
If I attend a seminar that has been accredited for both life and general credit hours can I split the credit hours between my Life and General Licence?
No. Credit hours that have been accredited for more than one class of licence can not be split between the licenses. An agent who holds both a Life and General Licence and participates in a course accredited for both life and general may only apply the credit hours to one class of licence and not both.
